Old Colorado City dispensary ‘closed indefinitely’ following crash

OCC Dispensary

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A dispensary in Old Colorado City is forced to shut down indefinitely after a car smashed into their business.

Lt. Jim Sokolik, a spokesperson for the Colorado Springs Police Department, said the department continues it's investigation into what led up to the crash.

"Our detectives were on scene with our major crash team," said Sokolik. "What they'll do is look at road debris, road evidence, they'll do the calculations and make determinations about speed and other factors that affected that accident."

Wednesday the business was boarded up with plywood, hiding the destruction on the inside.

The crash happened around noon on Colorado Ave. near 32nd Street. A Toyota Prius crashed into the front of Garden of the Budz.

"The preliminary information from witnesses was this individual was driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic in a reckless manner," Sokolik said.

Wednesday employees are out of jobs as they close indefinitely, forced to wait for police to finish their investigation so the shop can work with insurance to make repairs. Unfortunately, Sokolik says it could take time.

"This is not a quick process. This sounds bad, but that takes as long as it takes. It's not an easy process," he said.

Until then, the dispensary once fighting to survive a pandemic put out of business temporarily by a driver who could face many charges.

We still don't know the condition of the driver and the passenger, although police say the driver had significant injuries from the crash. Police were not able to say if alcohol or drugs were involved.
