Woman construction worker severely injured in suspected DUI crash in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- A female construction worker was seriously injured Friday afternoon after a being hit by a suspect DUI driver near downtown Colorado Springs.

Around 12:30 p.m., the Colorado Springs Police Department was called to an auto vs. pedestrian traffic crash on East Moreno Avenue and South Tejon Street. Witnesses reported that a sedan had struck a woman working on construction in the area. The construction worker was wearing a reflective vest at the time of the crash, according to CSPD.

Officers and first responders arrived immediately and helped transport the victim to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tejon Street was closed for several hours as CSPD's Major Crash Team investigated the accident.

Police arrested the driver of the sedan and identified her as 36-year-old Andrea Selanders. Officers said Selanders showed signs of being impaired and was charged with DUI among other offenses.
