Gov. Jared Polis gives update on COVID-19 in Colorado, July 14
DENVER (KRDO) -- Colorado Gov. Jared Polis is giving an update on the state's response to COVID-19 Tuesday.
Watch below starting around 2 p.m.:
As of Tuesday morning, 37,242 had tested positive for COVID-19 in Colorado. For more state data related to coronavirus in Colorado, click here.
Tuesday's press briefing with the Governor was different than most. Polis was direct and stern while addressing Coloradans saying the state is seeing an increase in COVID-19 cases and more hospitalizations. "At the press conference Wednesday of last week we had 182 hospitalized now we have 252 hospitalized," Polis says, "As I said from the very start, this is a marathon, not a sprint."
While Colorado currently has more than 500 beds available for patients. if hospitalizations continue to rise, Polis warns elective surgeries may once again have to stop in order to make up the hospital beds needed. "We don't want to have to take extraordinary measures as we had to in April to free up additional beds like delaying elective surgeries which frees up beds," Polis says."
Polis believes one of the reasons for the recent increase is due to people becoming too relaxed with social distancing measures and not wearing face masks. Something he says can't continue. "Frankly, I'm worried Coloradans are taking our fragile success and our success relative to some of our neighboring states as somehow a signal that we are out of the woods when that's far from the truth, Polis says, "We are not even close."
