State approves Pueblo County variance

KRDO

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- The Colorado Department of Public Health has approved Pueblo County's variance request Friday morning.

Pueblo County and City officials sent the variance request to the Governor's Office on May 29.

Although the State of Colorado has reopened restaurants statewide at reduced capacity, leaders in Pueblo wanted to reopen even more of their local economy.

County Commissioners and Pueblo County health officials submitted the variance request to include bars, churches (places of worship), indoor malls, gyms, and certain recreation businesses like theaters, bowling alleys, museums.

Commissioners also requested a waiver to allow for graduation events and to amend the 10-person rule in public gatherings to allow courts to resume trials by jury.

The variance was signed off by the City of Pueblo, Pueblo West Metro Board, local hospitals and the Pueblo health department.

KRDO is working to learn more if Pueblo's variance request was approved with changes. Check back later for updates.
