2 killed in crash in southeast Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Two people are dead following an early morning crash in Colorado Springs.
Police and fire crews responded to the intersection of S. Academy Blvd. and Fountain Blvd. in the early hours of Thursday morning. Officials tell KRDO that the two victims were declared dead at the scene. One person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Officials believe a white Ford sedan ran a red light and struck a semi truck's trailer.
Police say they do believe the sedan was speeding.
Rescue crews had to use the Jaws of Life to get the car out from under the trailer.
At this time investigators are looking into whether drugs or alcohol were factors in this crash.
Police say they will be working with traffic engineers to make the area safer for drivers, as accidents happen at the intersection of South Academy and Fountain frequently.
