COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Colorado Springs resident Amanda Dekoekkoek was looking for a way to help the homeless community. She decided on a donation drive, with the help of her son Jaxon. The event was held Saturday at Woodland Hills Park from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Through Dekoekkoek's donation drive and GoFundMe page, she has already raised over $300. With these donations, Dekoekkoek bought 'blessing bags,' comprised of small, non-perishable goods, such as plastic spoons, fruit bars, pop tarts, chips, beef jerky, bottled water and Slim Jims.

Amanda plans on hosting another drive May 31 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Woodland Hills Park, West of Pioneer Elementary School. If you'd like to help donate, you can find more information on her Facebook page, YOUareessential.
