Pueblo high school graduates walk the stage for virtual ceremony
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo's in-person graduation night has been cancelled this year because of COVID-19, certainly disappointing many high school seniors. However, District 60 says its making sure their walk across the stage is still a special one.
This week and next week, District 60 is filming its virtual graduations for all senior classes at each high school, to be aired online and on TV later this month.
Friday, the seniors at Centennial High School took their turn getting their diplomas.
The filming of the virtual graduation took all day. In order to adhere to social distancing guidelines from the state health department, six students entered the school at a time, each standing several feet apart.
For many graduates, Friday was the first time they’ve been inside their school in months, making this graduation feel surreal.
“It doesn’t feel like we are finishing high school,” said Centennial High School senior Alyssa Bray.
Even though graduation day 2020 may not be what the seniors expected, they're making the most of it.
“Every body wanted a walk, but I mean this is what we got and we ought to be grateful for it,” said graduate Francisco Chavez-Asencio.
Dalton Sprouse, Communications Director with District 60, believes the quality of the ceremonies will be top notch production value. These graduations will be something the students and their families can be proud of.
“This is going to be the graduation ceremony talked about throughout our entire history," said Sprouse. “We’ve been planning this and we’ve been working diligently day and night to produce the best quality super professional program that we’ll be able to share with our community."
