District 70 changes kindergarten age requirement
PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) — The District 70 Board of Education has approved changes to the entrance age requirement for children entering kindergarten.
For the upcoming school year, children must be 5 years old before August 1, 2020 to attend kindergarten in the fall, according to a press release sent out by the district.
Previously, children were required to be 5 years on or by June 1.
To begin all new kindergarten registrations, parents can go to the District 70 website at www.district70.org and look for 2020/2021 School Year Registration.
Parents will need the following information and documents:
- Student’s original or certified Birth Certificate
- Immunization Record on Physician letterhead
- Proof of Residence
- Proof of custody (if parents are not living together)
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the district will not be doing in-person registrations. All registrations will be done online through the district’s website.
If a child attended a D70 preschool last year and lives in D70 boundaries, the information will be transferred. For children who attended a D70 preschool and live outside of D70 boundaries, parents will need to re-register.
The following District 70 schools offer full-day kindergarten.
- Mesa Area: Avondale, North Mesa, South Mesa, Vineland.
- Mountain Area: Beulah, Rye.
- Pueblo West Area: Cedar Ridge, Desert Sage, Liberty Point, Prairie Winds, Sierra Vista
- Charter: Swallows Charter Academy, Villa Bella Expeditionary
