Suspected car thief arrested after running from deputies
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said an 18-year-old is facing multiple felony charges after running from deputies in a stolen car.
A deputy saw a vehicle speeding southbound on I-25 near Tejon Street on Monday around 9:42 p.m., according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy determined the vehicle was listed as stolen after looking up its license plate. He caught up to the vehicle and tried to pull it over, but the driver fled and continued south on I-25.
The sheriff’s office said the deputy shut off his lights and sirens and did not chase the vehicle. As the deputy was at a red light, he saw the vehicle crash and high center on the median on Circle Drive just to the west of I-25.
Three males got out of the vehicle and ran towards East Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard.
Another deputy who was nearby responded to the call. Both deputies chased the suspects on foot. They arrested two of the male suspects.
Deputies said one of the suspects arrested was the driver. The sheriff’s office identified him as Zane Bragg.
Bragg was booked into the El Paso County Jail on the following charges: First Degree Aggravated Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Criminal Mischief $5K to Less Than $20K, Resisting, as well as multiple traffic infractions.
