D-20 to submit proposals for in-person graduation ceremony to health dept. for review
EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- In a newsletter Friday from the school district's superintendent, D-20 announced its intention to draft two separate proposals for an in-person graduation ceremony, with a virtual ceremony as back up. The proposals will be sent to El Paso County Public Health, which will ultimately decide how the district will proceed with graduation.

"We are developing two in-person options for approval. One plan mirrors the ceremony held by the USAFA last week and the second includes a scenario where limited family members would accompany the graduate during the ceremony. A virtual plan will also be included," reads the newsletter. "We will submit our proposal in the coming days and EPCPH will evaluate our request(s) against approved guidance from the state and real-time health data specific to our county."
According to district spokesperson Allison Cortez, the in-person ceremonies for each individual high school would likely take place at D20's football stadium near Liberty High School along Powers, and would likely be held in the morning to eliminate the threat of afternoon showers.
She expected the approval process to last about two weeks, and praised the staff of the health department for their willingness to work with the district on top of all the other responsibilities it is tasked with these days.
