Money Matters: Will you receive a second stimulus check?

Many Americans have already received and spent their stimulus checks and are now wondering what's next.

According to Money.com, members of Congress on both sides of the aisle recognize that the initial relief payment wasn't enough.

Reuters reports that on April 6 President Trump said that a second round of direct payments was under "serious consideration."

According to Forbes, Congressman Ro Khanna (D-CA) and Congressman Tim Ryan (D-OH) have introduced the Emergency Money for People Act.

If passed, qualifying Americans over the age of 16 would receive a $2,000 monthly payment for up to 12 months.

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) also came up with a proposal.

Omar introduced the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act. If approved, it would call for nationwide cancellation of rent and home mortgage payments during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, the outbreak is making it difficult for lawmakers to meet.

Congress was scheduled to reconvene Monday, but its recess has since been extended to May 4.

For a traditional vote, members of the House and Senate need to vote in person.

Workarounds to conducting votes via voice vote, unanimous consent and other avenues are possible, but the proceedings, for now, are unclear.
