Students, parents tackle online learning during coronavirus quarantine

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- With schools closed in an effort to limit the possibility of the spread of COVID-19, the next few weeks will be challenging for kids and parents.

A mother from Colorado Springs is among many other Coloradans teaching their kids from home with the help of e-learning.

After losing her job at a restaurant, Shelby is now a stay-at-home mother of three. Her boys are all different ages -- one child is in first grade, another is in preschool, the third is just two years old -- and all of them are now at home.

Her oldest, Jude, has three different first-grade teachers. Each one of them records a video on a different subject, like reading, writing, math, and listening.

"They’ll do the lesson and then my son and I will do the lesson they instructed us to do or worksheets they assigned," she said.

So far she says she's grateful for the time they now have as a family, but says tackling virtual learning while also being unemployed is stressful.

She says the unpredictability of COVID-19 has her preparing to have her kids home until the end of the school year.
