fountain creek homeless fight

PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo police are investigating a bizarre attack at a an apparent homeless camp along Fountain Creek involving a bow and arrow and a machete.

At 11:26 am Wednesday, Pueblo Police received a call from an area business at the 4800 block of Dillon Drive regarding an individual being assaulted.

When officers arrived onto the scene a male individual appeared to have wounds to both his left leg and left hand.

The victim claimed he was shot with an arrow in the leg, and struck with a machete-like object, causing severe damage to his left wrist. The man was airlifted to a Denver hospital, where doctors are currently trying to save his hand.

Pueblo Police believe the alleged assault occurred in an unauthorized or homeless camp along Fountain Creek. When officers found the camp, they were unable to locate a suspect. However, witnesses gave investigators a description of the attacker.

Pueblo Police believe the suspect, who is believed to be homeless, goes by the name John, but it's unclear if that is the attacker's real name. 'John' is a white male with a red beard and long red stringy hair. He was last seen wearing green coveralls.

Pueblo Detectives plan on contacting the victim in Denver later today to gather further information on what sparked the incident and suspect.
