City begins 10-month construction project near First and Main Town Center

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Starting Wednesday, the City of Colorado Springs will begin a 10-month construction project on Barnes Road west of Powers Boulevard.

The voter-approved project will rebuild the four-lane stretch of Barnes Rd. between Powers Blvd. and Homestead Trail crossing.

There will be the installation of a median, sidewalks, turn lanes and storm drain infrastructure where there wasn't any before.

Lane closures and other traffic impacts will begin in late March. Throughout construction, one lane will remain open in each direction of Barnes Rd.

All businesses and residential areas will be accessible, although some temporary residential detours will be necessary at times.

Colorado Spring voters approved two projects to fund improvements on Barnes Rd. The PPRTA-2 "A List" was approved by voters in 2012, and the City's 2C paving program was approved by voters in 2015.
