People camp out ahead of president’s campaign rally in Colorado Springs

People camp for President Trump

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Hundreds of people began camping out nearly 24 hours before doors opened at President Donald Trump's rally in Colorado Springs.

Overall, people KRDO spoke with were unfazed by the long hours spent outside the Broadmoor World Arena.

"Well I have been here since about 4:30 a.m., we drove down from Denver. There are a lot more cool people down here in Colorado Springs," said Danielle Colp.

A sea of people waited in line, with many trying to be first to ensure they were front and center at the rally.

"We just heard a lot about how long the lines were going to be; we just wanted to be here as soon as possible," said Bradyn Chiles.

With cold temperatures, people tried their best to stay warm any way they could.

"I have two layers on my torso and two layers for pants, but I don't know my feet are freezing," said Ben Moore.

"We didn't bring any tents, we actually have our energy to keep us warm I guess. We've been moving around. We have our signs and we're walking up and down trying to root for our president," said Makria White.

Others made the time go faster by having a sense of humor and stretching in line.

"I've been doing the stretches, keep my calves and my thighs moving and my blood circulating," said John Clarence Fossom.

Surrounded by fellow Trump supporters, many said the connection they've made with others in line made it all worth it.

"Well, I've made wonderful new friends," said Caroline Chadima.

"Unbelievably well worth it, amazing, really good people here," said Michael Gilstrap.

For some, it was the first time they'd be seeing the president in person.

"It's something I'll always think about. With my generation, I feel like I'm very proud to be a Republican and a Trump supporter," said White.

The camper turned the experience into an overnight tailgate, no matter the age.

"I was trying to wear red, white and blue because I'm going to see Donald Trump," said one little girl.

"How often in one's life do you get to see the President of the United States live?" said Jeff Mcelhattan.
