Multiple people hospitalized after fire at homeless camp in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Four people were taken to a hospital with serious burns after a fire at a homeless camp south of downtown.
The fire was first reported along Royer Street around 8:15 p.m. Tuesday.
Soon after, several people with burns called for help from the Kum & Go convenience store nearby.
Initial reports suggest that there was some type of propane tank explosion that caused the burns, but fire crews tell us they're still working out what happened at the scene.
This is the third homeless camp fire in Southern Colorado in five days. Captain Mike Smoldino tells KRDO propane is used more during the colder months, and many without a home are receiving propane from citizens wishing to help.
The best way to help is volunteering your time or fund to places like the Marion House or warming shelters.
