COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) - Two people are displaced after a fire broke out at a residence in Colorado Springs. Fire crews were called to a four-plex on Mazatlan Cir. around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Jack Renner who called 911 said, “I was sleeping on the couch, fell asleep and I saw smoke coming in my door so opened it, kind of panicked and called 911."

Initial reports suggested there were several people trapped inside one of the residences. Crews then discovered that stairs were on fire and had to rescue two people from a back balcony.

Lt. Don Watkins with CSFD said, "Ended up their egress was blocked so the stairs that you see behind me were on fire and that kind of elevates our concern for trapped parties. We did end up taking two parties off the back balcony off with ladders.”

No one was hurt, and no foul play is suspected. Firefighters were able to contain the flames to one residence. Two people are displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross.
