CSPD says driver in viral video of I-25 rollover crash facing DUI charge

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.-- A woman whose rollover crash near I-25 was captured on video has been arrested on DUI and careless driving charges, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The rollover crash happened Monday afternoon and caused delays along the interstate in the Rockrimmon area as police responded to the scene.

People driving behind the female driver filmed the accident on their phone. The video shows a blue vehicle swerving violently and hitting guardrails as it tries to merge onto I-25 with oncoming traffic. The car eventually hits a dirt mound and rolls over the guardrail into a ditch.

Despite the car landing on its roof, police say the woman behind the wheel was not seriously injured and nobody else was hurt.

Tiyessha Alexander, who was in the car filming the crash, says the incident could have been much worse if the driver had crashed into other vehicles.

"When she hit the rail on the right side and went toward the highway, that's when I really got scared," Alexander said. "I really thought that she was going to end up hitting somebody else and that it was going to be horrible."

The video was shared on Facebook and has gone viral, amassing more than a 100,000 views and 5,000 shares.

"Stop drinking and driving," said Alexander, who hopes the footage will make people think twice about driving after drinking. "That could have really cost somebody's life."
