Colorado Springs couple killed in New Mexico car crash

SOCORRO, New Mexico - Two Colorado Springs residents are dead after a fatal car crash on US60/NM Highway 304.

Investigators say 94-year-old Harlan Swanson was driving a 2000 Chevy SUV with his passenger 92-year-old Elinor Swanson in the car when he turned onto US60 and was struck by a commercial vehicle.

They sustained fatal injuries in the crash and both were pronounced deceased on scene.

The 52-year-old driver of the CMV is from Belen, NM. He sustained unknown injuries and was taken to the hospital.

Alcohol does not appear to have been a factor in the crash and seat-belts appear to have been used properly. New Mexico State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit and Drone Team assisted in the investigation.
