COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) -- Here's a good fireworks rule of thumb for you this New Year's Eve: if Joe Dirt would want it, you can't pop it.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office put out a reminder on Tuesday letting residents know that most fireworks are illegal in the county. If it flies, explodes, or emits flames or flaming projectiles, it's not legal in El Paso County.

That means no spleen splitters, whisker biscuits, honkey lighters, hoosker dos, hoosker don'ts, cherry bombs, nipsy daisers--with or without the scooter stick-- lady fingers, fuzz buttles, snicker bombs, church burners, finger blasters, gut busters, or zippity do das. The sheriff's office also says bottle rockets, M80s, mortars, and roman candles are illegal in the county.

So what can you celebrate with? Sparklers, smoke bombs, ground spinners, and some fountains are OK in the county. Of course, you can always pop a bottle of Champagne/sparkling juice.

And if you're still craving some actual pyrotechnics, look up toward Pikes Peak and you'll be able to spot the fireworks being lit by the AdAmAn Club at midnight.
