EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KRDO) -- Thanks to the dedicated efforts of a few people in eastern El Paso County, four puppies who ran away after reportedly being thrown from a moving vehicle were found safe Tuesday.

Bonnie Jean Anderson posted photos of the puppies, saying they were found Tuesday. We reported when a couple found part of the litter on the side of Highway 24 near Soap Weed Road last week.

Morgan Dillingham, who placed the initial call for help, says she and her fiance immediately parked their car and tried to keep the puppies safe. While four of the dogs ran into a nearby field, two of them had been gravely injured on the road.

Those four dogs appear to be healthy in pictures shared by Anderson.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office is still looking for a suspect in the case, but they have several leads, according to a spokesperson.
