PUEBLO, Colo. (KRDO) -- Pueblo had been ringing in every new year by raising an image of the area's iconic chile pepper, but that won't be happening to start the 2020s.

Organizers say the event at Pueblo's Union Depot was canceled because of low ticket sales.

The event goes back about two decades, and the city embraced its spicy symbol by raising up a chile to coincide with the countdown to the new year.

Other cities in the US have similar events with their local icons, but the chile was set apart by being raised instead of dropping like the ball in Times Square.
