Authorities warn of someone possibly trying to poison pets in Colorado Springs
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- El Paso County Animal Law Enforcement says someone may be leaving meatballs laced with poison on a trail in the Old Colorado City area.
A flyer on a sign by the Midland Trail reads, "Your neighborhood appears to be the target of someone attempting to poison animals." Animal Law Enforcement officers say they're currently testing the suspicious meat at a laboratory but it's likely been mixed with antifreeze.
Jon Carillo, who was walking his dog about two miles away, says it's sad to think of someone trying to hurt other people's pets.
"These aren't just dogs to many people," he said. "Even for me, that's like my other little kid."
Animal Law Enforcement warns owners that their pets may be poisoned if they show symptoms such as lethargy, vomiting, loss of balance and diarrhea. If you believe your pet is sick, they advise you to contact your local veterinarian immediately.
"If something happened to them like that it would be devastating," said Ryan LeCompte about his two dogs.
Animal Law Enforcement is asking for any information that could help investigators. You can contact the local agency at (719)473-1741.
