Peyton man to judge Westminster dog show in New York City

EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. -- One of southern Colorado's very own will be headed to the Big Apple this February to judge the country's biggest and most prestigious dog show.

Dr. Eric Liebes of Peyton, Colorado will be among the judges at the upcoming 144th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City, according to a release from the club.

Dr. Eric Liebes was first approved to judge by the AKC in 1992, according to the release.

Liebes will be selecting Best of Breed winners in 19 individual breed competitions, which run from Feb. 9 -11. All of his Best of Breed picks will go on to compete in the Herding and Hound Groups at Madison Square Garden.

An active and accomplished dog showman himself, Liebes has won a number of Best of Breed titles at Westminster since the 1980's and 10 Best-In-Show wins.

He remains an active exhibitor and breeder of Komondors and Samoyeds, having received seven Komondor National Specialty wins and three Samoyed specialty wins, according to the release.

Liebes will be judging the following breeds:

Beaucerons, Belgian Malinois, Belgian Sheepdogs, Belgian Tervuren, Bergamasco Sheepdogs, Berger Picards, American English Coonhounds, American Foxhounds, Black and Tan Coonhounds, Bloodhounds, Bluetick Coonhounds, English Foxhounds, Plotts, Redbone Coonhounds, Sloughis, Treeing Walker Coonhounds, Alaskan Malamutes, Anatolian Shepherd Dogs, and Cane Corsos.
