Helmet safety becoming more important for skiers and riders
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- According to the latest statistics, just over 40 people have died each year in skiing or snowboarding accidents in the last 10 years.
Of those deaths, the majority of them come from reckless behavior and, in turn, improper use of a helmet.
Ultimately, it all comes down to fit.
"First thing you want to do is have it snug on your head," said owner of The Ski Shop, Debbie Uhl. "It shouldn't have a lot of gap and should not be sitting too high on that forehead. We want to be able to see your eyebrows wiggle. That tells me it's holding your head and not sliding around everywhere."
And if you do wear a helmet, it doesn't mean you're invincible. Make sure you're still staying safe.
