Freight train derails after truck crash in northern Colorado

PLATTEVILLE, Colo. (AP) - Authorities say nearly 20 cars of a freight train derailed after a crash with a truck in northern Colorado.

The crash happened Wednesday morning just south of Platteville. The Colorado State Patrol says the driver of the truck suffered minor injuries.

Police believe the driver may have tried to beat the train across the tracks, causing the crash.

The derailment shut down U.S. Highway 85 which runs parallel to the Union Pacific tracks.
