Homeowners in Briargate neighborhood still waiting for a repaired mailbox four weeks later
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The morning after Halloween night, neighbors on Thorncreek Drive in the Briargate area woke up to their community mailbox ripped open by thieves.
Their mail was left exposed, but it didn't appear the criminals had taken anything.
Four weeks later, the mailbox is still broken, held together by duct tape.
"I'd like to see them investigate what's going on here. We have not seen any investigator come out," says Tim Eagan, a neighbor in the area. "We've attempted to contact the post office and so far we've got nothing for a good response or no response at all."
Around the block on Dristol Drive is another mailbox with a similar break-in.
Rick Rea, another concerned neighbor, speculated that perhaps the thieves were looking for something specific.
"The fact that it's occurred to multiple mailboxes gives us reason to believe they're looking for something," she said.
Eric Manuel, a U.S. Postal Inspector, told KRDO the parts to replace the mailbox damages had been ordered. However, he did not have a definitive timeline on when the repairs will take place.
