Pueblo police investigating destructive crash along Interstate 25
The Pueblo Police Department is investigating a destructive crash scene that was found Wednesday along southbound Interstate 25 near the 6th Street exit.
Investigators believe two key factors played a role in the wreck: alcohol and speeding.
Pueblo Police received a call of a wreck on the interstate around 1:11 am Wednesday Morning. A witness saw a red Mustang Convertible racing another vehicle. The witness told authorities that the two vehicles were going at least 90 miles per hour.
The driver of the red Mustang, now identified as 35-year old Mathew Baca, lost control of the vehicle.
"The scene is a total devastation," said Sgt. Shelly Taylor, the Traffic Sergeant with the Pueblo Police Department. "It appears that the car rolled multiple times. Items from within that car were everywhere. The car hit a pole, and severed that pole in half."

Baca was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was then taken to a hospital where he suffers from severe injuries.
The speedster now faces a new list of charges as well, including DUI, reckless driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a valid form of identification.
As for the second driver, the witness told officers that the driver actually came back to check on the well being for his fellow racer. However, once the witness started taking pictures of the scene, he fled.
That driver turned out to be family of Baca's, and he told investigators they were not racing or driving erratically, contrary to the witnesses story.
