As if Colorado Springs didn't have enough pro-tourism news, AARP just put out its list of affordable vacation destinations for 2020, and the Springs landed right up top.

Garden of the Gods is the first image you see in the list, but AARP's main reasoning for the Springs being a top destination is because it's a good Olympic alternative to flying to Tokyo for the 2020 summer games.

"Olympics fans can still have a gold-medal experience at 'Olympic City USA' ... tour the US Olympic & Paralympic Training Center and see hopefuls practicing," AARP said in the report last week. The organization points to the springtime opening of the US Olympic & Paralympic Museum as another Olympic experience.

Aside from those points, AARP also shines a light on the free and cheap outdoors activities the Springs has to offer, like the aforementioned Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak.

Here's the list:

  • Colorado Springs, Colorado
  • Kittery, Maine
  • Lauderdale-by-the-Sea, Florida
  • Saranac Lake, New York
  • Lafourche Parish, Louisiana
  • Burnet County, Texas
  • Franklin, Tennessee
  • Paso Robles, California
