On Friday, KRDO partnered with Colorado Honor to raise money to place wreaths on El Paso County fallen heroes' graves during the holidays.

Gold Star mother Cleo Allgood helped out when it came to answering phones to honor her own son who died in combat.

U.S Army Col. Brian Allgood died on January 20, 2007, after his helicopter was hit by enemy fire. Eleven other soldiers died with him.

"We actually got the call from my daughter-in-law. When the military informed her, and they said they were going to call us, she said, 'No, I have to call my mother-in-law first.' After that, we didn't know what to do," Allgood told us.

The death of her son was devastating, but Cleo says that's why she came to help out at the Colorado Honor Telethon; to make a difference in honor of her son Brian, and their family.

"It is very special to me, not only because of them but because of all the other veterans," Cleo said.
