Women gather at Garden of the Gods for ‘body positive’ photoshoot
A group of women decided to take off a few layers at Garden of the Gods, and they say the pictures they took are all about loving the skin they're in. It's a story that's positively 'body positive.'
"It's gonna be terrible for the first couple seconds and everyone is going to see we're kind of half-naked," said Jade Dillard to the group of women she invited. "[But] it's going to be alright."
Dillard is new to Colorado Springs and says she wanted to find a way to find "her people," other women who want to live body positive lives.
She says growing up her mom didn't have that confidence.
"She talked really negatively about herself," she said.
Dillard had the idea for a group, outdoor photo shoot after seeing a Facebook page called Body Positive Catwalk.
Strangers meet up in beautiful, public places to bare their bodies and their souls.
"They take off their clothes and they're in a bra, underwear, swimsuits things like that," she said. "It's so positive and very encouraging and uplifting."
Mindy Blackwell was the professional photographer at the shoot. She says most of her clients want her to Photoshop their flaws.
"This is the first shoot that I've done probably in five years that I didn't touch-up," said Blackwell. "They didn't want anything removed. That was a whole point of it."
Originally, dozens of women RSVP'd to the event, but some backed out at the last minute.
Dillard hopes the pictures inspire others to show up and strip down the next time they schedule a shoot.
"It's gonna be awesome," she said.
