People keep speeding down S. Union in Colorado Springs

A lone Colorado Springs police officer set up on S. Union Boulevard to keep an eye on drivers, and in just one day, he caught more than a dozen people going 20 mph over the speed limit.

Maybe this is why Colorado Springs drivers are ranked among some of the worst in the country.

According to CSPD, Officer Graham was conducting speed enforcement on Union Boulevard for about nine hours Thursday, and he gave out 22 speeding tickets. Fifteen of those tickets were for drivers who went more than 20 mph over the speed limit, and one of those drivers was caught going 33 mph over the speed limit.

Graham was at the same spot last week and matched a similar pace of catching speeders. In a little over four hours, he caught 13 speeders — six of those drivers were going more than 20 mph over the speed limit.

The police department has been putting an increased emphasis on catching speeders lately. Earlier this year, Chief Vince Niski reported a 300% increase in traffic tickets year over year.
