Two grass fires overnight were started by homeless, says CSFD

Crews that responded to two grass fires Tuesday evening and overnight say the fires were started by homeless activity.

Fire units responded to the first scene at the southwest corner of Pikes Peak and Academy just before 7 p.m. and quickly brought it under control.

Both directions of Academy were closed between Pikes Peak and the Colorado Springs Airport as crews worked the area.

The second grass fire was reported at about 4 a.m. Wednesday morning at Airport and Karr roads, according to the Colorado Springs Fire Department. The fire grew to about a half acre before crews knocked it down.

#CSFD. Fire investigations revealed the Wildland Fires at Academy/Pikes Peak and later at Airport/ Karr on 10/22/19, were caused by homeless activity. No structures damaged and no injuries reported. @CityofCOS @CSPDPIO @local5iaff
