Honolulu, HI (KITV ) — The University of Hawaii Board of Regents announced its support for another telescope on Mauna Kea as the fight against TMT approaches 100 days.

The Board introduced a new resolution on Tuesday calling for the current Hoku Kea facility at the summit be moved down the mountain to an area known as Hale Pohaku.

The Board also is calling for an educational center at Hale Pohaku to help ensure visitors are aware of the cultural, environmental and astronomical importance of the area.

They recommend that UH request funding for that center during next year’s legislative session.

The resolution also recommends that University of Hawaii partner with an organization that benefits Native Hawaiians to set up commercial shuttles and tours to and from the mountain.
