Colorado woman indicted in alleged sale of human fetuses
Federal officials in California have indicted a Colorado woman who is suspected of trying to sell three human fetuses and a fetal skeleton online.
KUSA-TV reported that 38-year-old Emily Suzanne Cain pleaded not guilty to charges Tuesday before appearing in San Francisco federal court Wednesday.
Federal court records say the fetuses are believed to be from stillborn infants from the 1920s.
Authorities say Cain tried to mail a package in Canon City to an address in the United Kingdom October 2018.
Investigators say Cain posted on Facebook that she acquired the fetuses from a university lab collection and was selling them for $20,000.
Investigators traced the specimens to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska.
University officials said they are cooperating with authorities.
A phone number for Cain could not be located.
