Huge mastiff carried down Utah hiking trail by Search and Rescue
A 190-pound male mastiff was carried down a trail in a stretcher Sunday evening after passersby reported that the injured dog and his owner were unable to move.
Floyd, a 3-year-old mastiff, was hiking with his human about nine miles to the east of Salt Lake City on the Grandeur Peak Trail. But when it came time to come down, Floyd wouldn’t move.
The Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue received a call around 6:30 p.m. about Floyd, who was still two miles up the trail.
Floyd was strapped into a litter and carried down the mountain by members of the all-volunteer Search and Rescue team.
“Floyd was a good boy and was happy to be assisted,” said a Facebook post from SLCSSR. The nature of Floyd’s injuries were not specified, but all team members, dog and owner were safely off the mountain by 10:30 p.m.
