Laie, HI (KITV) — 6-year-old Olivia Numanga is recovering after she was the victim of a hit and run in Laie Friday night. She was riding her bike around her neighborhood when a white car struck her. Police are still looking for the driver that fled the scene.

“My daughter was coming out of the driveway, opposite of our house and there was one car that came and hit her and that car took off,” William Numanga, Olivia’s father, said.

Honolulu police report the car stopped for a moment but drove away as witnesses came out to help her. Neurologists told her family Olivia has a broken thigh bone, a small skull fracture at the back of her head and a bit of bleeding but it’s not severe. She was transferred from Kahuku Hospital to the Kapiolani Medical Center for surgery and is now recovering.

“The neurologist wasn’t too worried because the scans didn’t show too much damage. Just slight bleeding but not too bad. They didn’t think it was very concerning for them to do any further assessment or surgery,” William said.

The family says another part of their healing journey: the prayers.

“I wasn’t on site and it was crazy but I was at the temple at the time, just up the road. I had a calming feeling that everything is gonna be okay,” William said.

As police continue to look for the suspect, the family wants them to know, he’s not angry.

“It’s an unfortunate situation. it’s an accident. they could’ve stayed and helped and assist the investigation,” William said. “Maybe they were scared and took off. I don’t know. this has been a traumatic experience for us as i can imagine for them too.”

The investigation is on-going. Anyone with information is asked to call Honolulu Police Traffic Division at 723-3413.
