Littleton man identified in small plane crash in New Mexico
The pilot of a Colorado plane that crashed last month in New Mexico wilderness has been identified as 29-year-old Nicholas Peterson of Littleton, Colorado.
According to a release from New Mexico State Police, two bodies were found aboard the wreck but the medical examiner is still working to identify the second occupant.
On September 26, New Mexico State Police was notified that a single-engine four seat airplane out of Colorado went missing after refueling and taking off from the Santa Fe Airport. Air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft soon after take off.
The following day NMSP initiated search and rescue operations in the Sante Fe National Park and the Pecos Wilderness.
At approximately 9:00 a.m. on September 30, NMSP and the New Mexico Search and Rescue ground team located an airplane crash site in the Pecos Wilderness, near Hamilton Mesa in Mora County.
The two bodies in the aircraft were pronounced deceased by the medical examiner.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration.
