Fallen firefighter memorial service honors first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty

An estimated 6,000 first responders, families and friends gathered at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs Saturday morning to honor U.S. and Canadian firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty in the past year.

The names of 250 firefighters were added to the International Association of Fire Fighter’s Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial Wall of Honor, a permanent memorial with more than 8,000 names dating back to 1918.

The names of the fallen include those who died on-scene or succumbed to occupational illnesses, such as heart disease or cancer.
