Semi truck fire closes Southbound I-25

An 18-wheeler on fire has shut down part of I-25, just south of Colorado Springs.

Fire crews were called to the area between Mesa Ridge Parkway and Highway 85 on I-25.

There were claims of explosions by witnesses, but crews were able to control the fire. However, heavy black smoke is still present in the area.

As of 6:50pm, at least one southbound lane had reopened. Traffic is now going through slowly.

Traffic at the time was backed up several miles.
