Serious injury crash closes major roadway in Colorado Springs

A serious injury crash involving at least five vehicles closed the southbound and northbound lanes of Powers Blvd between Stetson Hills and Barnes Wednesday morning.

Crews first responded to a crash in the southbound lanes and then a secondary crash happened in the northbound lanes, closing all northbound lanes. One lane was able to get by on the shoulder.

Further investigation by the Colorado Springs Police Department revealed that a grey pickup truck was traveling northbound at a high rate when it struck a vehicle. In return, that vehicle hit other vehicles.

The grey pickup truck then spun and crossed over into the southbound lanes and struck a dump truck. The driver of the pickup truck is in critical condition. There was another minor injury and that person was transported to the hospital.

An alternate route to get around the crash:

Coming from the north: Use Dublin and then take Tutt, Peterson or Austin Bluffs Pkwy Coming from the south: Use North Carefree Circle and then go north on Tutt, Oro Blanco or Peterson
