City to test Prospect Lake again for blue-green algae

Officials with the City of Colorado Springs will head back out to Prospect Lake Wednesday morning, to test the lake, for blue-green algae.

The naturally-occuring algae often forms in Colorado, and tends to disappear on its own, so the city is testing the progress of the algae’s regression.

“Were retesting weekly to see how our bloom is taking and which direction it is going,” said environmental health and safety specialist Erik Rodriguez.

This is all ahead of Labor Day weekend, and the Labor Day Lift Off, which often uses Prospect Lake as a hub for activities and games during the long weekend.

This Labor Day Lift Off, water events will be held elsewhere, and its highly advised that pilots do not dip their balloons into Prospect Lake.

Results from the algae tests should be available by Friday, but the tests are expected to be extremely high, so the city is still saying no swimming this weekend in the lake.
