Teen caught in Colorado Springs after crime spree, escape
Quinn Scaggs, the teenage burglary suspect who escaped from a youth detention facility in Golden back in June, is back in custody and is apparently the suspect in a new string of crimes since his escape.
Scaggs, 18, escaped from Lookout Mountain Youth Services Center in late June — police in Golden said he removed the window from his room, jumped out and then used bed sheets that he had tied together to escape over the perimeter fence. The Golden Police Department considered Scaggs a “violent offender.”
CSPD confirmed to KRDO that Scaggs was arrested late Monday with the help of Tactical Enforcement Unit and K-9 officers. Scaggs was arrested on outstanding warrants, but police also said he is a suspect in two armed robberies that happened within an hour of each other this weekend.
Police said at the time he also had felony warrants for his arrest, but he was also reported as a missing child.
Lookout Mountain is a secured treatment program for male juvenile offenders. Scaggs was the third teen to escape from the facility in the early half of the summer. According to Director of Youth Services Anders Jacobson, he got away despite all the precautions that were in place to prevent such an incident, like room, fence, and perimeter checks.
Jacobson says the facility is planning to put in anti-climb mesh to prevent any further escapes from the facility.
CSPD said more information will be available in a coming news release.
