Mini-golf tournament helps raise money for Colorado Springs kids in poverty

Tuesday was the inaugural Giving Children a Head Start mini-golf tournament, which aims to benefit children living in poverty in our community.

More than 150 putters took to the course for Community Partnership for Child Development, or CPCD. The goal fo the event is to raise money to help benefit free early childhood education programs for children up to age 5 living in poverty in our community.

Andy Inman, Board Member with CPCD and organizer of the event, said, “We’ve been looking at a way to try and raise some funds and awareness for the programs that CPCD does. And [we] thought that this would be more of a spoof on what the traditional golf charity golf tournament looks like.”

To help sponsor the event, more than 25 local companies came together to help by sponsoring each hole. Lindy Conter, who is also a Board Member, has high expectations for what they hope to achieve today.

“We would love to raise $27 million. And that’s not going to happen, but if we can raise $30-40,000, that brings all sorts of good things to the classroom,” said Conter.

And she says the money raised will be key to helping push kids in the right direction in our community.

Conter said, “Oh my gosh, this is what’s going to build the future for Colorado Springs and the whole area.”

Tuesday’s tournament was just the inaugural event. Inman says he hopes to make this a yearly tradition moving forward, saying, “Our goal is to continue this trend and build the event bigger and bigger each year.”

After this, the CPCD will have a cocktail event at the Antlers Hotel on October 30. It will be free to attend but you will have to RSVP.
