Durango shelter needs help saving dog with arrow in skull
The La Plata County Humane Society is working to save the life of a one-year-old dog that has had an arrow lodged in its skull and nasal cavity for more than a month.
The dog, Champ, was transferred to LPCHS from another shelter on July 11, and his health deteriorated. When Champ was taken to be x-rayed, veterinarians discovered the arrow stuck in his skull.
Staffers at the shelter say Champ is one of their favorites, and they say his playful personality and his smile “has touched the entire LPCHS team.”
Champ’s only chance at surviving is a risky surgery, and combined with the post-op care, it’s expensive. La Plata County Humane Society is trying to raise at least $5,000 for the care needed to save Champ. The surgery is scheduled to be performed later this week.
