08/24/19 Forecast Discussion

Tonight: Currently a few scattered showers are located over the northern half of the Sangre’s and Wet mountains. These storms will not be severe and should pose a minimal threat of flash flooding to the burn scar areas. Kit Carson and Cheyenne Counties are under Tornado Watches till 11pm tonight, as severe thunderstorm development is likely, especially over the far eastern side of the counties as you approach the Kansas line. Staying mostly clear in Colorado Springs with a low temperature of 55 degrees.

Sunday: Beautiful and hot! Temperatures approaching record high’s in Colorado Springs at 94 and pueblo to 101. Elevated fire danger is likely, thankfully wind speeds on the I-25 corridor and through into Prowers County will remain light. The mountainous areas, not so lucky. Wind gusts to 30 mph in the higher elevations, so I do anticipate to see Red Flag Warnings issued west of I-25.

Extended: Thankfully the heat doesn’t last into next week, we’ll cool off to seasonal temperatures with relatively low chances of rain through mid-week.
