Man charged for killing dog in Colorado Springs

A man has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals after confessing to killing his own dog.

Authorities also removed two more dogs from Rowland Trevino’s custody.

On July 28, a sergeant with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) Animal Law Enforcement team responded to reports of Trevino killing his dog and burying the dog in the backyard.

Trevino’s neighbor reported the crime and provided video evidence. HSPPR also conducted a necropsy and found that the dog showed signs of strangulation in addition to a severed throat.

After further investigation, the HSPPR along with deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrested Trevino and charged him with aggravated cruelty to animals, a felony charge.

Two more dogs belonging to Trevino were taken to HSPPR for exams and protection. After the dogs (pictured below) became HSPPR’s property, they were transferred for their safety and are available for adoption at one of HSPPR’s partners.
