Thornton man seriously injured in lightning strike at Rocky Mountain National Park

A 31-year-old man from Thornton, Colorado suffered numerous injuries from a lightning strike while hiking in Rocky Mountain National Park on Saturday, said park officials in a press release.

The man was hiking below the tree line between Dream Lake and Lake Haiyaha when the strike occurred. It’s unknown if he was directly struck by the bolt. Other hikers found him injured along the trail and called park rangers.

RMNP Search and Rescue team members responded and provided medical care. They brought him down the trail in a wheeled litter to the Bear Lake Trailhead where he was then taken to Glacier Basin Campground by ambulance. The man was then flown to the Medical Center of the Rockies.

The extent of the hiker’s injuries is unknown and no other information is available at this time.
