Park honoring fallen Douglas County deputy opens in Castle Rock

Deputy Zack S. Parrish III Memorial Park opened Saturday in Castle Rock, named in honor of a Douglas County deputy who was shot and killed on New Year’s Eve in 2017.

The park, which includes a memorial to honor Deputy Parrish and other public safety personnel, officially opened at 11 a.m. Saturday, report our partners at KUSA.

Parrish was killed while responding to a disturbance call on December 31, 2017 with four other deputies at the Copper Canyon apartment complex on County Line Road.

The public overwhelmingly voted to name the park in his honor, according to KUSA, to acknowledge his sacrifice and the work of all police officers and firefighters.

Prior to his time with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Parrish served with the Castle Rock Police Department.

The 5.5 acre park is located at 2020 Fiddle Road with two play structures, picnic pavilions, a multiuse field, pickleball courts, cornhole boards, horseshoe pits, and bocce ball courts.

Honored to be part of the grand opening for the Zackari S. Parrish III Park in Castle Rock today. Probably one of the coolest parks we’ve seen in Douglas County. #phenomenal #theyhaveazipline pic.twitter.com/NL90RCBt8k
