Lightning kills bear in tree in Woodland Park

One of the storms that rolled across Woodland Park Monday turned out to be fatal for a bear that was in a tree.

According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, a bear was struck by lightning late Monday and died instantly.

CPW said the bear was about 300 pounds and older, not a cub.

This lightning season has seen several people injured and at least one fatality due to lightning. Back in July, two colts were found dead by lightning strike in Ellicott.
